Description

Rolex GMT Master ref. 16750. This transitional reference of the renowned Rolex GMT model dates back to late 1981. The watch has been professionally polished and remains in excellent condition. The case is still quite thick, and the bracelet shows minimal stretch. This model features the matte dial and the fat font bezel insert typically associated with its predecessor, the ref. 1675. The dial is in very good condition, exhibiting a beautiful aged patina. The bracelet is stamped with the 1982 year code. Powered by the self-winding Caliber 3075, this watch is a rare find due to its transitional production period and vintage parts.

THE GMT-MASTER 1955

The GMT-Master was developed to meet the specific needs of airline pilots. It became the official watch of several airlines, among them the famous Pan American World Airways, better known as Pan Am. Its most distinguishing visual feature was the two-tone bezel which marked daytime from nighttime hours.

THE FIRST TRANSCONTINENTAL FLIGHTS

As intercontinental travel developed in the 1950s, airliners began to fly swiftly across several successive time zones. For the first time it became important to know the time in various places in the world, simultaneously. It was the dawn of the jet age, and Rolex responded with a watch to match the spirit of the times.
