Description

Stainless steel Rolex GMT Master ref. 1675. A superb stainless-steel Rolex GMT-Master from 1966, preserved in outstanding condition. Lightly worn and unpolished, the case retains sharp lines and strong definition. The bracelet, stamped 1967, is in very good condition and complements the watch perfectly. The watch features a beautiful gilt black dial showing only minor signs of wear, which has naturally evolved into a highly attractive dark brown tropical tone, with all original lume intact. Completing the aesthetic is a wonderfully faded bezel insert, adding character and charm. Powered by the reliable self-winding cal. 1570, this GMT-Master represents everything collectors seek in a mid-1960s example. An exceptional and soulful vintage Rolex—one that you will undoubtedly fall in love with.

THE GMT-MASTER 1955

The GMT-Master was developed to meet the specific needs of airline pilots. It became the official watch of several airlines, among them the famous Pan American World Airways, better known as Pan Am. Its most distinguishing visual feature was the two-tone bezel which marked daytime from nighttime hours.

THE FIRST TRANSCONTINENTAL FLIGHTS

As intercontinental travel developed in the 1950s, airliners began to fly swiftly across several successive time zones. For the first time it became important to know the time in various places in the world, simultaneously. It was the dawn of the jet age, and Rolex responded with a watch to match the spirit of the times.
