Description

14K gold and stainless-steel Rolex GMT Master ref. 1675. A stunning two-tone Rolex GMT-Master from 1976, preserved in original condition. While the watch shows signs of use, it remains unpolished, with a thick and well-defined case. The bezel insert has developed an attractive, naturally faded patina, enhancing its vintage appeal. The dial is flawless, with lume that has beautifully aged to a creamy hue. The steel and 14K gold bracelet is in excellent condition, exhibiting minimal stretch and stamped with the 1.76 year code. Powered by the self-winding Caliber 1570 and accompanied by its original papers dated 1981, this is an outstanding example of a two-tone GMT-Master and an opportunity not to be missed.

THE GMT-MASTER 1955

The GMT-Master was developed to meet the specific needs of airline pilots. It became the official watch of several airlines, among them the famous Pan American World Airways, better known as Pan Am. Its most distinguishing visual feature was the two-tone bezel which marked daytime from nighttime hours.

THE FIRST TRANSCONTINENTAL FLIGHTS

As intercontinental travel developed in the 1950s, airliners began to fly swiftly across several successive time zones. For the first time it became important to know the time in various places in the world, simultaneously. It was the dawn of the jet age, and Rolex responded with a watch to match the spirit of the times.
