Description

Stainless steel Rolex Explorer ref. 1016. A fine example of the iconic Explorer 1016, featuring a gilt dial. The case is in good condition, having been polished over the years while retaining its strong profile. The gilt dial is very well-preserved, with original lume intact on both the markers and hands. Over time, the dial has aged to a beautiful brownish hue, enhancing the watch’s vintage appeal. The watch is fitted with a later-model Oyster bracelet from the 2000s, replaced during a Rolex service. Powered by the self-winding Caliber 1570, this piece is a fantastic choice for vintage Explorer enthusiasts seeking both character and authenticity.

PIONEERING WATCHES

In the early 1950s, Rolex developed professional watches that served as tools and whose functions went far beyond simply telling the time. These watches were intended for professional activities, such as deep-sea diving, aviation, mountain climbing and scientific exploration. The watches generated lasting enthusiasm and became known as the watches of achievers.
