Description

Stainless steel Rolex Daytona ref. 6263. A very attractive Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 6263 “Big Red”, offered with its original box and punched papers. The watch is presented in very good overall condition. The case remains thick and sharp, retaining strong proportions and excellent definition. The black dial is in excellent condition, showing only subtle signs of wear confined to the white subsidiary registers. In our opinion, the luminous material has been professionally refreshed to original factory standards. The bezel insert displays only a minimal and discreet mark, consistent with careful wear. The Oyster bracelet is in very good condition, correct for the period, and shows no stretch. Powered by the legendary manual-winding cal. 727, this 6263 represents one of the most iconic configurations of the manual Daytona era. A well-preserved and complete example of the sought-after “Big Red,” ideal for collectors looking for a strong and honest reference 6263.

DAYTONA BEACH 1960

Birth of a Horological Icon Timepiece  The myth around the iconic Rolex Daytona has spread around the world recent years. Always has the Daytona model been attached to motor racing, at first Rolex called their new Cosmograph the “Le Mans” and little later to “Daytona” when Rolex started to sponsor the well known U.S. speedway.
Cosmograph: a name that was to be the forerunner of great fortune. Actually, the choice of the name proved to be neither easy nor expected. Whilst Rolex on the one hand flirted with the car-racing world, on the other hand it could not remain unaware of the vast media attention, which at that time was surrounding the conquest of outer space.
