Description

Stainless steel Rolex Daytona “Paul Newman” ref. 6239. A superb example of the iconic reference 6239 “Paul Newman,” featuring black dial and dating from 1968. Recently discovered as a true barn-find in Spain, it remained stored away for many years by the family of the original owner. The stainless-steel case shows signs of light polishing over its lifetime, yet remains remarkably well preserved—still thick, crisp, and retaining excellent definition. The original riveted bracelet, reference 7205 and stamped 3.69, testifies to decades of careful use while remaining in very good overall condition. The black “Paul Newman” dial is exceptionally well preserved, with all luminous plots fully intact and perfectly complemented by matching hands. Originally sold in Valladolid, Spain, in January 1970, it is powered by the manual-winding calibre 722 and is accompanied by its original box and matching papers stamped by the local retailer. A true collector’s piece—an outstanding opportunity to elevate even the finest vintage Rolex collections.

The Rolex Daytona "Paul Newman"

Due to the coolness of Mr Paul Newman italian collectors started to call his “Exotic” Daytona giving the nickname Paul Newman. From origin Rolex asked their dial maker Singer to produce a special run chronograph dials because those where not selling quite well back in the days. The successful flight to the moon with the Omega Speedmaster was working negatively for the sales of the Rolex Daytona. Due to the oil crisis made the racing imago wasn’t very populair and Rolex needed to come up with something new. Except the development by Singer of the “Exotic” dial, Rolex developed the “screw down oyster-waterproof” pusher making their Daytona Cosmograph a sales hit.
