Description

Stainless steel Rolex Explorer ref. 1016. One of our all-time favourite Rolex references, this 1964 Explorer is made even more special by its beautifully aged tropical dial, a true gem for vintage enthusiasts. The watch is in very good condition, with a solid case that retains strong proportions and well-defined angles. It is fitted with its original Oyster rivet bracelet, showing no stretch, and a clasp correctly stamped with the 1966 date code. The highlight of this piece is undoubtedly the dial, which has aged to a rich chocolate brown tropical hue, perfectly complemented by creamy original lume hands. This is an early dial, featuring the low “Swiss T<25” designation, entirely correct for its serial range. Powered by the reliable self-winding Caliber 1560, this Explorer represents the kind of vintage Rolex that every serious collector hopes to own.

PIONEERING WATCHES

In the early 1950s, Rolex developed professional watches that served as tools and whose functions went far beyond simply telling the time. These watches were intended for professional activities, such as deep-sea diving, aviation, mountain climbing and scientific exploration. The watches generated lasting enthusiasm and became known as the watches of achievers.
