Description

ROLEX DAYTONA REF. 16528 4 LINES DIAMOND DIAL Introduced in 1988, the new Rolex Daytona model was made not only in stainless steel, but also in 18-karat yellow gold. The specimens in gold are even rarer than those in steel, as they were produced in very small numbers. This is the reason why is very difficult to find a gold example in pristine original condition, especially an early example coming with the serial number "R". The present Rolex Daytona 16528 is one of the very first specimens produced with serial number R9, it is in untouched original condition and comes with an extremely rare and rarely seen "4 Lines" diamond dial. All of these features make this 16528 a truly exciting watch for the Daytona collector. This Rolex Daytona reference 16528 is an excellent specimen that has been cared for with extreme attention over the years. The case is pristine with a pleasing oxidation patina, the bracelet is tight, the dial is absolutely flawless, the bezel has all numerals intact, the movement functions perfectly. The appeal of this example is further enhanced by the presence of the extremely rare black "4 Lines" diamond dial. All components of the watch are correct for the period of production: black "4 Lines" diamond dial, Mk1 bezel, 16500 signed caseback, 4030 ser. 13,XXX caliber, 78668 / M8 bracelet. The watch comes without original box and warranty. Serial number R,983,XXX, year 1989.

DAYTONA BEACH 1960

Birth of a Horological Icon Timepiece  The myth around the iconic Rolex Daytona has spread around the world recent years. Always has the Daytona model been attached to motor racing, at first Rolex called their new Cosmograph the “Le Mans” and little later to “Daytona” when Rolex started to sponsor the well known U.S. speedway.
Cosmograph: a name that was to be the forerunner of great fortune. Actually, the choice of the name proved to be neither easy nor expected. Whilst Rolex on the one hand flirted with the car-racing world, on the other hand it could not remain unaware of the vast media attention, which at that time was surrounding the conquest of outer space.
