Description

Maunder Watch Co are pleased to offer this beautiful example of a Rolex Daytona 6265 Sigma dial. Rolex Daytona Cosmograph 6265 sigma dial. This watch consists of a 37mm stainless steel case and bezel with an tachymeter engraved steel bezel.  The tiny, round marks sometimes found on either side of the “Swiss” or “Swiss Made” text at the very bottom of certain watch dials from the 1970s are actually the lowercase Greek letter sigma, hence the rather-appropriate, “sigma dial” nickname. Numerous rumors and myths surround these often-unnoticed, sigma markings; however the general consensus is that they were a mark used by certain Swiss manufacturers to signify that the hands and hour indexes on a given watch were craft from solid gold. This particular timepiece is a dated 1976 and presented with its original box and paperwork. This watch is now available to view at our store located in the Burlington Arcade, Mayfair. DAYTONA BEACH 1960

Birth of a Horological Icon Timepiece  The myth around the iconic Rolex Daytona has spread around the world recent years. Always has the Daytona model been attached to motor racing, at first Rolex called their new Cosmograph the “Le Mans” and little later to “Daytona” when Rolex started to sponsor the well known U.S. speedway.
Cosmograph: a name that was to be the forerunner of great fortune. Actually, the choice of the name proved to be neither easy nor expected. Whilst Rolex on the one hand flirted with the car-racing world, on the other hand it could not remain unaware of the vast media attention, which at that time was surrounding the conquest of outer space.
