Description

ROLEX DATEJUST 16018 YELLOW GOLD BOX AND PAPERS In 1977, Rolex decided to revamp the Datejust, one of its highly successful models. The introduction of the 160XX references brought forth several new features. The 18kt gold models now boasted a sapphire crystal, replacing the previous plastic glass. Sapphire is a more durable and scratch-resistant material that enhances the dial's brightness. The movement also received an upgrade, with the introduction of the more reliable and accurate caliber 3030, featuring a quick date change function. Production of the 160XX series continued until the late 1980s when it was permanently discontinued from the Rolex catalog. This specific Datejust ref. 16018 in 18kt yellow gold is an exceptional representation of this reference. Purchased from a Spanish authorized dealer in 1987, this Datejust has been meticulously cared for over the years. The case retains its original finishes without any polishing, displaying deep gold hallmarks. The Champagne dial has acquired a warmer bronze tone and remains flawless. All components are correct for the production year, including the T Swiss T dial, caliber 3035 movement, 16000 caseback, Twinlock crown, and original 18kt Jubilee bracelet. The watch is accompanied by the original Spanish guarantee, box, and booklets. It is truly an amazing timepiece, both in terms of its exceptional overall condition and the collector set that accompanies it. Serial Number 5,603,XXX, Year 1979, Diameter 36mm.

THE FIRST DATEJUST 1945

The year 1945 saw the birth of the Datejust, the first self‑winding wrist chronometer to indicate the date in a window on the dial. A watch of great distinction, the Datejust was equipped with a Jubilee bracelet created specially for it and a fluted bezel, making it immediately recognisable as a Rolex. It is the pillar of the Oyster collection. Initially for men, it became available in various models for women in the course of the following decade.
