Description

ROLEX DATEJUST 16018 RIVETTI BRACELET WHITE DIAL BOX AND PAPERS In 1977, Rolex decided to revamp the Datejust, one of its highly successful models. The introduction of the 160XX references brought forth several new features. The references were distinguished by the materials used in their manufacture and the type of bezel. The 16000 model was crafted in steel with a smooth bezel, the 16014 also in steel with a smooth bezel, and the 16013 in steel and gold with a fluted bezel. The standard reference in 18kt yellow gold was the 16018, featuring a fluted bezel. The 18kt gold models now boasted a sapphire crystal, replacing the previous plastic glass. Sapphire is a more durable and scratch-resistant material that enhances the dial's brightness. The movement also received an upgrade both in steel and gold versions, with the introduction of the more reli-able and accurate caliber 3030, featuring a quick date change function. Production of the 160XX series continued until the late 1980s when it was permanently discontinued from the Rolex catalog. This particular Datejust reference 16018, crafted in 18kt yellow gold, stands as an outstand-ing example of its kind. Acquired from the esteemed Italian authorized retailer "Ronchi Milano" in 1988, this Datejust has received meticulous care throughout its existence. The case retains its original finishes impeccably, bearing deep gold hallmarks without any signs of polishing. The remarkable Rivetti bracelet shows no signs of stretching and remains in pris-tine, original condition with correct endlinks. The white lacquered dial accurately displays the "T Swiss T" designation, with hands and markers featuring tritium and remaining flawless. All components are authentic for the production year, including the T Swiss T dial, caliber 3035 movement, 16000 caseback, Twinlock crown, and bracelet with 76 endlinks. The watch is accompanied by its original Italian guarantee and receipt, along with the box and booklets. It stands as a truly remarkable timepiece, both for its exceptional condition and the collector's set that accompanies it. Serial Number 6,152,XXX, Year 1988, Diameter 36mm.

THE FIRST DATEJUST 1945

The year 1945 saw the birth of the Datejust, the first self‑winding wrist chronometer to indicate the date in a window on the dial. A watch of great distinction, the Datejust was equipped with a Jubilee bracelet created specially for it and a fluted bezel, making it immediately recognisable as a Rolex. It is the pillar of the Oyster collection. Initially for men, it became available in various models for women in the course of the following decade.
