Description

Maunder Watch Co are pleased to offer this fresh-to-the-market Military Issue Rolex Submariner ‘Milsub’ Ref. 5513. Now for the finer details and components of this watch, this watch has been left exactly as it was sold to us to give you a real reflection of its time in the service. Firstly, lets start with the number 1 most important part, of any vintage Rolex, the dial. The original T stamped dial which is signature to a ‘Milsub’ is in incredible condition and the original Tritium lume has turned to a beautiful deep cream. The hands, the original issued hands would have been ‘Sword’ styled however, these hands are early service replacement, the aging to the Tritium and metal work is consistant with the watches age and matches the dial perfectly. This was a particularly common replacement due to the structural integrity of the lume bridging the sword style of hands. The bezel, this is a service replacement bezel insert, most likely changed in period. The case, the original stainless steel case retains its nice broad shoulders with the signature detail of a Military issue watch, the fixed bars. The case is stamped with its reference number, 5513 and its serial number 382**** which sits perfectly within the military supplied batch records and dates the watch to 1974. The caseback, the top line is 0552 (Royal Navy MOD service code) alongside 923-7697 (NATO code for divers watches). The bottom line displayed 74 (the year of issue). The inside case back serial reads 376**** a differnet serial, this was very common at the time as these watches went in for repair with the MOD with very little care for attenion to detail when reassembled. This watch has the seal of approval from none other than Henry Hudson at Rolex with one of his last documents signed before retirement. This documented letter details the watch and it being originally supplied to the Royal Navy. The Rolex Submariner

The Rolex Submariner is without a doubt one of the most successful Rolex models in history. Not only because it more than aptly served its purpose as diver’s watch, although I am pretty sure only a small number of Submariners has ever seen a spat of water. Its appearance in several James Bond movies certainly helped as well. If you omit functionality and marketing, the Submariner success is mainly due to its elegance as a timeless dress watch. It’s just one of those watches you keep looking at, regardless of wanting to know the time of day. The Submariner was launched in 1953 and officially presented at the Basel Fair in 1954.
