Description

Candy Pink Stella - Rolex really pushed the envelope in the 1970’s & 1980’s by introducing hard enamel dials known as Stella dials. These enamel watch faces came in a riot of colors, tones you wouldn’t expect to see on a Rolex. Interestingly, ‘Stella’ is not a nickname by collectors but the name of the company supplying the lacquer for the dials. It is believed that these dials were originally produced for a few markets including the Middle East and Asia but found their way to other regions as well. The irony is that Stella models weren’t popular during the time Rolex produced them. Back then clients wanted more conservative dials so many of these dials were sent back, destroyed or misplaced. This is one reason why a good Stella dial is a hard find today. The numbers of well preserved examples is small, many are cracked and not in the condition we want them. The offered watch is in pristine condition with a strong case and mint condition dial, free of any cracks, spidering or tool marks. Further the hands are original and matching the lume on the dial. Not only is the condition astonishing but also the color. Stella dials came in a Tutti-frutti range of colors and the Candy Pink is one of the rarer colors to find. Depending on lighting the color changes from pink, over to salmon and peach. Stella dials have always been rare but its only in the recent years that the collecting community has realized that and is on a mission to add these to their collections.

THE DAY-DATE 1956

In 1956, the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date made its debut. Available only in 18 ct gold or platinum, it was the first wristwatch to display the date and day of the week spelt out in full in a window on the dial. With the President bracelet, originally created specially for it, the Day-Date continues to be the watch par excellence of influential people.

LEADERSHIP

Rolex watches have long been associated with those who have, over time, guided the destiny of the world. No matter their vision, their domain of excellence, or their achievements, the one thing these exceptional men and women have in common is often their watch: the Day-Date.
