The Pumpkin Knight - its very seldom that we get our hands on New old Stock condition, however when we find something interesting in even close to new condition, we try to grab it. This extraordinary mint Rolex Sea Dweller 1665 Great White from 1978 is a marvel. If this watch could speak it would probably seek attention and say 'please wear me' because it has been stored away in the dark for likely most of its life. The case is fat, sharp and very prominent, showing factory proportions and finishing. The lugs retain the original chamfers which add so much to the beauty of this example. The case back still retains a good part of the black enameling in the letters letting us assume that the watch really did not have much wrist time. The bracelet is in equally mint condition, shows only very very light stretch from age. Summing that up so far it already sounds like a dream watch to find but it is about to get even better. The original MK1 dial is flawless, free of any tool marks, scratches or any kind of aging. The luminous material is perfectly retained and has aged to a strong and prominent pumpkin color, matching the original hands. In most cases we can be very fortunate to find alone a mint Rolex Sports in close to new condition, having this found with the complete paperwork including the original sales receipt, we feel we cracked the jack pot. It is one of the best 1665 we have ever seen.

| Case | Excellent unpolished case in like new condition only showing very little wear from age. The lugs are well defined and show the factory chamfers and brushing.Reference and Serial numbers are crisp like when new. The case back still partially shows the black enameling in the engravings. The bezel is equally unpolished and razor sharp, the insert is original and has the original pearl which has aged to a pumpkin color, matching the lumes on the dial. |
