Description
Eye of the Tiger - When it comes to gold Rolexes the first thing coming to our minds are Day Dates which were exclusively made in precious metals. Another watch that, also has variants in white, yellow and even pink gold is the Datejust. With a long standing history its one of the most iconic models by Rolex, which since 1945 exists in an unchanged design. White gold and pink gold examples are immensely rare but even yellow gold examples are becoming scarce, especially when rare dials come into the picture, then the game changes. That being said, Datejusts since the early 1970s have been made with several stone dials too. To mention a few, Lapis, Onyx, Malachite, Bloodstone and Tiger Eye. One that complements a yellow gold case most is the Tiger Eye dial which, given its natural properties, has gold color . This is a 1977 reference 1601, the last year of production for a plexi Glass Datejust. It is fitted with a flawless and beautiful Tiger Eye dial. The watch is overall in excellent condition for its age which a strong case retaining healthy lugs and a bracelet showing only little wear from age.

The year 1945 saw the birth of the Datejust, the first self‑winding wrist chronometer to indicate the date in a window on the dial. A watch of great distinction, the Datejust was equipped with a Jubilee bracelet created specially for it and a fluted bezel, making it immediately recognisable as a Rolex. It is the pillar of the Oyster collection. Initially for men, it became available in various models for women in the course of the following decade.
