Description
White Gold Datejust
The reference 1601 in white gold is probably one of the most understated watches from the Rolex line-up. Only those who know, know. It is not only a very understated but also incredibly rare watch considering that most 1601s were made in stainless steel, a fair number in yellow gold and only a small number of pieces were manufactured in white and pink gold. We have here a astonishing example of a white gold 1601 dating back to 1970. The case is sharp and in healthy conditions showing only light wear from age considering it is more than 50-years old. The dial is beautiful and very uncommon, a matte black Confetti dial. The Confetti dial is characterised by very fine red and green dots which become visible under strong magnification. This has the effect that the dial surface looks like a velvet like material. With the growing demand on vintage Day Dates the quest for rare precious metal Datejusts has gone up too and we think this is a pretty rare bird.

The year 1945 saw the birth of the Datejust, the first self‑winding wrist chronometer to indicate the date in a window on the dial. A watch of great distinction, the Datejust was equipped with a Jubilee bracelet created specially for it and a fluted bezel, making it immediately recognisable as a Rolex. It is the pillar of the Oyster collection. Initially for men, it became available in various models for women in the course of the following decade.
