Description
The Four Liner - The Rolex Submariner 5512 is the pinnacle for collectors of dive watches. With a subtle difference on the movement and consequently on the dial it is the rarer counterpart of the probably most iconic dive watch of all times, the 5513. Offered here is a great example of a Rolex Submariner 5512 with Gilt dial. The case has just been professionally polished, remains fat and strong. The dial is beautiful with no chips, scratches or major wear, and only a few minor and light surface aging to the dial, visible under magnification. Whats most important that the mirror-like gloss of the dial is well retained and the luminous is still original, on the dial as well on the hands. It lights up strongly when exposed to UV and falls at the same rate, no signs of a relume. The gilt print has a very prominent and dark gold color unlike many which look creamy. The two silver lines are a very nice feature on the dial. This version of the 5512 was only produced for about 3 years as the last gilt 5512 before the matte dials went into production in about 1966/1967, it is one hell of a watch. Further the correct kissing 40 insert has aged to a beautiful gunmetal grey, changing shades when exposed to the sunlight. Last but not least the watch is fitted to the matching 66 dated 7206 Rivited Oyster bracelet. Buying a great 5512Gilt is not easy, one can die trying. It is the grail for many Vintage Rolex collectors and we know why. The charm of a super glossy 5512 Gilt Four Liner on the wrist is unbeatable.

Case | Very good case that has just been polished. The lugs are thick and sharp making the watch healthy and strong. The last 3 digits of the serial number seem to have been re-engraved by hand. The bezel is sharp and the correct Kissing 40 insert has aged to a beautiful gunmetal grey. |
Bracelet / Strap | Very good Rivited Oyster Bracelet 7206 with 12 links. The clasp code is 66 making it correct for the watch |
Dial | Excellent and super glossy Gilt dial with a non-spidered and clean surface. The dial is free of any drags like on most of these dials. The lume has aged to a warm creamy hue and the original hands are matching. The 1, 6 and 8 o clock markers show some chipping of the luminous. The reaction to UV is as it should be expected, the lume lights up and falls at the same rate. The gilt print on the dial has become very dark and taken on a copperish color. The silver print is very vibrant too and none of the graphics has faded or deteriorated at all. |
