Description

The Rolex Skater This exceptionally rare Rolex reference 4731 is a design master piece from the 1940s. The case of this very unusual watch was made by Sogno S.A. (Geneva) the same manufacturer who designed and made the case for Patek Philippe's iconic 'Skater' reference 2425. While on most rare watches we express our assumptions using the words 'x examples known to exist', the 4731 has case back markings which in our opinion are confirming the production of only 10 pieces out of which this particular one bears the number 4 inside the case back, representing the sole publicly known example to our knowledge. The unique shape of this watch is a revelation in the world of watches, with its unique lateral inclined mountings and prolonged downturned lugs. The dial, with its argentè background and exquisite yellow gold details, features a subsidiary dial for seconds and a black outer closed track for minutes. It is astonishing that even after 77 years the dial is in flawless condition. Every detail of this watch is a work of art, the shapes and angles make this a perfect example representing the world of Art Decò watches. Rarity, condition and style are, the best words to describe this breathtaking watch.
