Description

This Rolex GMT-Master, ref. 1675 features a beautiful "Long E" and faded fuschia pink bezel. The "Long E" or Mark 1 dial is one of the earliest variations of the matte GMT-Master dial, with only the Mark 0 coming before it. This dial variation gets it's name from the extended "E" in the ROLEX logo on the dial. These dials can be found on late 1m serial number watches and early to mid 2m serial watches. This watch features a 1.89m serial, consistent with that period. The case on this watch is in excellent condition, with some wear, sharp underside edges and clear, wide chamfers on the lugs. THE GMT-MASTERĀ 1955

The GMT-Master was developed to meet the specific needs of airline pilots. It became the official watch of several airlines, among them the famous Pan American World Airways, better known as Pan Am. Its most distinguishing visual feature was the two-tone bezel which marked daytime from nighttime hours.

THE FIRST TRANSCONTINENTAL FLIGHTS

As intercontinental travel developed in the 1950s, airliners began to fly swiftly across several successive time zones. For the first time it became important to know the time in various places in the world, simultaneously. It was the dawn of the jet age, and Rolex responded with a watch to match the spirit of the times.
