Description
Excellent example of the transitional Rolex GMT Master 16750 from the mid 80s. The overall watch is in excellent condition, from all different aspects. The case is sharp with nice proportions and well defined lugs. The original matching solid Oyster bracelet doesn't show much wear from age and is in the same condition like the case. The glossy black dial with white gold surrounds is in excellent condition. The original Tritium on dial and hands has aged to a very warm brownish hue. The correct blue back Pepsi bezel insert has aged nicely to a baby blue and dark red. The 16750 is gaining more an more popularity given its quick set date movement and glossy dial. Looking at the production run, it was only produced for around 9 years in two dial variants. its the last plexi Pepsi in the before the Sapphire crystal models were introduced in the late 80s.

The GMT-Master was developed to meet the specific needs of airline pilots. It became the official watch of several airlines, among them the famous Pan American World Airways, better known as Pan Am. Its most distinguishing visual feature was the two-tone bezel which marked daytime from nighttime hours.
THE FIRST TRANSCONTINENTAL FLIGHTS
As intercontinental travel developed in the 1950s, airliners began to fly swiftly across several successive time zones. For the first time it became important to know the time in various places in the world, simultaneously. It was the dawn of the jet age, and Rolex responded with a watch to match the spirit of the times.
