Description
The unpolished Mk2 GMT - In our journey to find the best watches collectors often fail and either wait or start making compromises. Good news is we don't want to make compromises and even better news is, if you were looking for a perfect GMT 1675, here it is. What you see here is a ca.1973 Rolex GMT Master reference 1675 with MK2 dial. This watch is in incredible condition with an unpolished case showing beautiful factory beveling and crisp lug holes. The lugs are straight and even, still retain the factory brushing. The fat font Pepsi insert has aged to a petroleum blue and light rose color, is fitted to a sharp edged and unpolished bezel. The correct period MK2 dial is near flawless and free of any marks or discolorations whatsoever. The original luminous material has aged to a cream color and is consistent with the original hands. It comes on a folded 7836 Oyster bracelet which is fully linked and has moderate stretch from wear. All in all this is a mint watch in honest condition, one which doesn't come up much. We haven't seen such a good one in a long time

The GMT-Master was developed to meet the specific needs of airline pilots. It became the official watch of several airlines, among them the famous Pan American World Airways, better known as Pan Am. Its most distinguishing visual feature was the two-tone bezel which marked daytime from nighttime hours.
THE FIRST TRANSCONTINENTAL FLIGHTS
As intercontinental travel developed in the 1950s, airliners began to fly swiftly across several successive time zones. For the first time it became important to know the time in various places in the world, simultaneously. It was the dawn of the jet age, and Rolex responded with a watch to match the spirit of the times.
