Description

The Mark 1 Fuchsia     -     We are offering here a beautiful example of a Rolex GMT Master Ref.1675 from 1968. The watch features the early Mk1 dial with long E graphics and has the grainy dial surface, correct for the serial range. The lumes are original and have the waffle-type texture making it noticeably different than the later 1675 dials. The hands are original and bear original Tritium luminous too and another fine detail is the correct hooked 7 date wheel. The bezel is magnificent with a vibrant Purple color along with a blue that has faded a few shades lighter. The case seems to be unpolished and is showing beautiful factory bevels on the well defined lugs. The case is sharp and overall has a great substance. The matching 7206 rivited Oyster bracelet only shows light wear from age and has 11 links, the correct 68 clasp. We haven't seen many nice Fuchsia GMT recently and definitively not many in overall strong conditions. Collectors want so many boxes ticked when they are on their hunt for their next watch, unpolished cases, clean dials with original and nice luminous, beautiful inserts matching bracelets and so on. They often don't realize what they are asking for until they find examples which are good but don't fulfill all criterias. This very GMT Master ticks all boxes for us, it is truly an awesome watch.

THE GMT-MASTER 1955

The GMT-Master was developed to meet the specific needs of airline pilots. It became the official watch of several airlines, among them the famous Pan American World Airways, better known as Pan Am. Its most distinguishing visual feature was the two-tone bezel which marked daytime from nighttime hours.

THE FIRST TRANSCONTINENTAL FLIGHTS

As intercontinental travel developed in the 1950s, airliners began to fly swiftly across several successive time zones. For the first time it became important to know the time in various places in the world, simultaneously. It was the dawn of the jet age, and Rolex responded with a watch to match the spirit of the times.
