Description

A rare reference      -      The reference 6611 is among the first hand full of references for Day Dates and is to be considered as one of the rarest. This 6611B is a Day Date from the very early years, when the case had more rounder edges and a thicker case back like the Ovettone cases showed. The bezel was a very finely fluted, also called Millerighe type bezel. It was early stage and we believe Rolex was fine tuning the specs to launch their later references. This very watch dates back to 1958 and is in incredibly well preserved condition. The case is fat and retains straight and even lugs with clearly visible numbers. The champagne dial is in very good condition and shows some aging in form of specking. This specking is probably due to Radium dust which deteriorated and crumbled over time, some of the luminous dots are missing, others are present and fully intact. The Geiger shows a reaction when held to the watch, confirming original Radium luminous. The Leaf hands are original and in good condition. One of the special features of this watch is the bracelet. This 6611B is fitted with a woven style Mesh bracelet with fine texture, similar to the one on the Great Gatsby 6511 sold at the Glamorous Day Date auction at Phillips a few years ago. Given its fine finishing it looks very delicate however it is pretty robust and will make a great appearance on the wrist. The bracelet is in excellent and seemingly unshortened condition and bears a Swiss Big Logo clasp which is in great shape and bears all the hallmarks. Last but not least this watch comes with its original Box, beautifully decorated wallet and original Bulletin.

THE DAY-DATE 1956

In 1956, the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date made its debut. Available only in 18 ct gold or platinum, it was the first wristwatch to display the date and day of the week spelt out in full in a window on the dial. With the President bracelet, originally created specially for it, the Day-Date continues to be the watch par excellence of influential people.

LEADERSHIP

Rolex watches have long been associated with those who have, over time, guided the destiny of the world. No matter their vision, their domain of excellence, or their achievements, the one thing these exceptional men and women have in common is often their watch: the Day-Date.
