Watch details

The Rolex Daytona needs no introduction to the vintage watch enthusiast. The Daytona is among the most iconic and sought after vintage Rolex models and the 6263 is one of the most beloved references. This 6263 is particularly interesting and valuable because it is both a "Big Red" and "Sigma Dial" Daytona. The reason for the name Big Red is evident in the DAYTONA writing above the bottom subdial. The Sigma Dial is identifiable by the small Sigma symbols at the very bottom of the dial on each side of T SWISS T. These sigma markings mean the indexes on the dial are made from white gold. This particular Rolex Daytona 6263 comes complete with the original Rolex warranty with punched serial numbers. The warranty shows the watch was sold to a lawyer in Madrid in 1976.

Birth of a Horological Icon Timepiece  The myth around the iconic Rolex Daytona has spread around the world recent years. Always has the Daytona model been attached to motor racing, at first Rolex called their new Cosmograph the “Le Mans” and little later to “Daytona” when Rolex started to sponsor the well known U.S. speedway.
Cosmograph: a name that was to be the forerunner of great fortune. Actually, the choice of the name proved to be neither easy nor expected. Whilst Rolex on the one hand flirted with the car-racing world, on the other hand it could not remain unaware of the vast media attention, which at that time was surrounding the conquest of outer space.
