Watch details

Brand: Rolex Model: Explorer II Reference: 16550 Gender: Gents Year: 1984 Material: Steel Dial Color: Original and Untouched Cream Dial Dimensions: 40mm Watch Movement: Self-Winding Bracelet/Strap: Stainless Steel Box/Paper: Handmade Leather Travel Pouch Condition: Thick Case with Signs of Original Finish SKU: 130683 The Rolex Explorer is a highly sought after model with a number of notable references; the 1016, the 1655 "Orange Hand" or "Freccione" and the 16570. This particular Explorer is a transitional reference 16550, which came between the 1655 and the 16570. These 16550s came with a black and white dial, but due to a mistake in the production of the early series of the white dials, the white became more cream. This, along with the aging of the lume in the hour makers, makes for a beautiful, low contrast dial.

Rolex presented the Oyster Perpetual Explorer II, dedicated to polar explorers, speleologists, and all those pushing the boundaries of exploration. The watch featured a distinctive 24-hour hand, an invaluable aid around the poles and beneath ground when you can't tell night from day.
